Honolulu, HI- According to White House officials, President Obama will be returning 5% of his salary. A spokesman for the President says the move is a symbolic gesture to show that he is sympathetic to those suffering due to the tough economy. This will amount to a $60,000 per year from the President's annual $400,000 salary. The gesture was quickly met with criticism as the President promptly boarded Air Force 1 in route to Hawaii.The President spoke to reporters from the wet bar at a country club in Honolulu. Obama was asked if he thought that the trip was sending the wrong message to those concerned about the economy.
"I know that I am trying to cut back on spending but whatever. Have you seen this place? They have a hot tub in every room and they'll bring you fresh lobster at three in the morning. What did you expect me to do? Move to Compton? I'm the President of the United States for God's sake."
Obama went on to say, despite his indulgences, he wants the American people to know that he knows how hard it is for the middle class right.
"I feel this is an excellent PR move that portrays me as a man of the people who is dedicated to stimulating the economy and putting Americans back to work. Although I'm not going to miss $60,000, and I spent that on breakfast, it is still a very cool thing to put in a press release. It's the Conservative mainstream media that's out to crucify me, but the people will understand. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm meeting Charlie Sheen for a 12 o'clock tee time and I don't want to be late."
